FAQ
Questions people ask
Plain answers about cost, data, how the AI behaves and what happens after it goes live. If your question isn't here, ask me on a free call.
Getting started
Do I need to be technical?
No. I build it, test it and show you how it works in plain English. Day to day, you just carry on using your email, phone and the apps you already have.
How long before it is running?
Small jobs can be live within a few days. Bigger ones take two to six weeks, and you see it working on your own examples before it goes live.
What size of business do you work with?
Mostly owner-run businesses with between one and twenty people. If the admin lands on a few busy people, it is a good fit.
Where are you based?
In the UK. I work remotely with businesses anywhere in the country, by video call and phone.
What do you need from me to start?
Twenty minutes on a call to talk through your week. After that, usually some example paperwork or enquiries, and access to the apps involved.
Cost
What does it cost?
An AI audit is £495, and most builds cost between £1,500 and £6,000, agreed up front as a fixed price. Optional support starts at £95 a month. The pricing page has worked examples.
Are prices fixed?
Yes. You get a fixed price for each piece of work before I start. If you want to add something partway through, we agree the extra cost first.
Who pays for the software it uses?
You pay any software or AI subscriptions directly, so you always own the accounts. It is usually between £0 and £60 a month, and I tell you before you agree.
What if it doesn't work for my business?
You see it working on your own real examples before it goes live, and the second half is only paid at go-live. If the audit shows automation isn't worth it for you, I will say so.
Is VAT included?
FTW Digital is not VAT registered, so there is no VAT to add. The price you see is the price you pay.
Data and privacy
Is my data safe?
Your data only goes where it needs to, using accounts in your name. For sensitive work, the AI can run privately on UK-hosted servers or your own hardware.
Is my data used to train AI?
Business accounts with the main AI providers do not use your data for training, and the private option keeps everything on UK-hosted or your own servers.
Will you sign a data processing agreement?
Yes, a written agreement setting out what data is handled and where can be part of the work.
Does it help with GDPR?
Keeping data in accounts you control, and in the UK where needed, makes things simpler. I document where data goes, but it is not legal advice.
How the AI behaves
What if the AI gets something wrong?
It only works from the information and rules you give it. You can start with everything needing your approval, and anything unusual is passed to you rather than guessed.
Will my customers know?
Replies are written in your tone and signed the way you choose. Some businesses add a line saying replies may be assisted. Anything personal or tricky still comes from you.
Can I switch it off?
Yes, at any time, and you go back to doing things by hand. Nothing about your existing systems changes.
After it goes live
What if it stops working, or you are not around?
Everything is documented and set up in your accounts, so another developer could pick it up. Support customers get fixes as part of the monthly fee.
What does support cover?
Monitoring that it is running, fixing anything that breaks, keeping up with changes to the apps it connects to, and up to an hour a month of small changes.
Do I own what you build?
Yes. It runs in accounts in your name, and you get the documentation. You are never locked in to me.
Can I add more later?
Yes. Starting with one job, and adding the next once the first is paying for itself, is usually the best way.
